Project Overview

This project analyzes personal Spotify listening history using interactive Power BI dashboards. The goal is to understand listening behavior across albums, artists, tracks, time patterns, and platforms through dynamic visuals, drill-downs, and drill-through analysis.

Overview Dashboard

The Overview Dashboard is divided into three analytical sections providing comprehensive insights into listening patterns and preferences:

  • Albums Analysis: Total Albums, yearly trends (2014-2022), year-over-year comparison, weekday vs weekend listening behavior, and Top 5 Albums by play frequency
  • Artists Analysis: Total Artists, trends over time, latest year vs previous year comparison, weekday vs weekend listening analysis, and Top 5 Artists
  • Tracks Analysis: Total Tracks, time-based trends, year-over-year comparisons, weekday vs weekend patterns, and Top 5 Tracks
  • Dynamic Slicers: Platform selection, shuffle mode, repeat mode, and year filter enable flexible analysis across all visuals

Listening Pattern Dashboard

This dashboard focuses on time-based and behavioral insights to identify listening patterns and preferences across time periods and platforms:

  • Heat Map Visual: Listening hours mapped against days of the week revealing peak listening periods and weekly patterns
  • Scatter Plot Analysis: Average listening time versus track frequency with interactive filtering for dynamic exploration
  • Key Insight: Second quarter shows the highest track frequency and average listening time, indicating seasonal listening preferences
  • Interactive Controls: Year, shuffle mode, and listening scale slicers enable deep exploratory analysis

Spotify Listening Insight Dashboard

This dashboard implements hierarchical analysis and detailed exploration through drill-down and drill-through capabilities for granular insights:

  • Key Metrics: Total Albums, Total Artists, Total Tracks, Total Milliseconds Played, and Average Listening Time (Minutes)
  • Drill-Down Hierarchy: Navigate from Album level to Artist level to Track level for progressive detail exploration
  • Drill-Through Features: Enabled through Total Albums and Total Artists metrics to inspect detailed listening segments and behaviors

Data Model & Measures

The dashboard leverages a sophisticated data model with custom date tables and advanced DAX calculations to drive all analytical visuals and insights:

  • Custom Date Table: Includes date, day name, day number, weekday/weekend classification, and year grouping for temporal analysis
  • Calculated Measures: Time intelligence functions, year-over-year comparisons, min-max aggregations, and dynamic frequency calculations power all visuals
